Lakeisha George Program Director
Lakeisha George was born and raised in Beaufort, North Carolina. In 2013, she attended Carteret Community College, where she earned her Associate in Arts degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice. In 2014, she was awarded a merit scholarship from The Sunshine Lady foundation which was founded by Doris Buffett. After being accepted to NC State University, she and her children moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2016, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. With the academic advice from college mentor, Joe Johnson, she continued her education at NC State University and earned a Master’s degree in Social Work in 2018.
Lakeisha has over 10 years of experience servicing individuals, families, and communities. Her professional social work knowledge and education include public health, child welfare, and public service. Her empathy for marginalized populations has led her to seek to empower people to enhance the quality of their lives through self-efficacy and sustainability. She has worked for Carteret Community College, Haven House, NC State University Department of Social Work, and Wake County Human Services before joining The Green Chair Project.
